Cold bytes as accountants sleep out for homeless
6 Oct 09
A team of 15 from BDO in Scotland were among more than 100 people from Scotland’s business and IT community who braved a chilly night last Friday as they slept outdoors in aid of the children’s homeless charity Action for Children

They were taking part in Edinburgh’s annual Byte Night, which sees professionals give up their warm beds for the night to raise money for the organisation, which is committed to helping the most vulnerable children and young people overcome injustice, deprivation and inequality.
Similar events took place on the same night in London, Reading, Manchester and Newcastle.
BDO managing partner in Scotland in Neil Craig donned his sleeping bag for the evening. He said: “The event is designed to give people an idea of what it might be like to be homeless and raise awareness of the valuable work Action for Children does in getting young people off the streets and into accommodation where they can feel safe and secure.
“There was a real spirit of togetherness which helped us through the blustery conditions and I’d like to extend my congratulations to everyone who took part.”
Robert Heggie, IS consultancy manager at BDO in Scotland, helped organise the event, held in Holyrood Park, as part of the Byte Night Scotland board.
He said: “This year’s sleepover attracted three times as many participants as last year’s inaugural event. It was great to see so many new faces in addition to those who took part last year.
