Even in these enlightened times, sad to say, there are blokes...

A poll finds that 8 per cent of Scottish men wish their partners earned less – resentful, presumably, at being shown up.

The proportion with a normal “why me?” view of the matter is much higher: 70 per cent think their partners should be earning more. Among women, 77 per cent feel the same.

The saints, who never think about what the other half earns, amount to only 2 per cent.

The recruitment company Hudson, which set up the poll, says that there should be more to choosing a job than just whether the pay will put you in a better cohabitational position.

There will be some mad, romantic fools who say that there should be more to choosing a cohabitee than mere salary.

Have your say
