Relay great effort from ICAS marathon team

29 Jun 09

A relay team representing ICAS defied baking heat on the day to finish the Edinburgh marathon in an impressive 69th place out of 932 teams

Hugh Shields, David Young, Louise Greer and Jim McGaff formed the relay team for the Institute in the event on 31 May, running in four stages of between five and eight miles each.

Jim McGaff, who works in the design department at ICAS, said the crowds lining the route helped spur the team on.

“Although it was very hot this year, it was a really enjoyable event to take part in, and there was great encouragement from people on the streets,” he said.

Hugh Shields, who has run four full marathons in the past, was happy to keep his distance down to around eight miles on the day.

“Training for a full marathon takes up a huge amount of time, so this was a great way to be involved in the event without the training taking over your life,” he said.

The team was raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, Lothian.
