'Mutual economy' in UK totals £84bn

The UK's mututal economy has revenue of £84 billion and assets of £477 billion, figures from the sector show. The largest part of the mutual sector is co-operative and employee-owned organisations, including the Co-operative Group and the John Lewis Partnership, which account for £45 billion in revenue

NHS foundation trusts account for £16 billion and housing associations for £10.8 billion. Member-owned organisations in financial services, including building societies, mutual insurers and credit unions account for £10.5 billion. The sector includes employee-owned businesses and football supporters’ trusts.
