CA lends hand on Lourdes trip

4 Aug 08

CA and ICAS Council member Adriene Airlie is now home after a 'wonderful' week's trip to Lourdes in France with a group of special needs and handicapped children and their helpers

Airlie, a partner with accountants Martin Aitken & Co, acts for the Glasgow Pilgrimage for Handicapped Children.

The annual pilgrimage, organised by Georgina Murphy from Balornock, cost about £70,000. This year, Airlie, who lives in Newlands, Glasgow, volunteered to help the group of 72 as a helper and took her daughter Sarah, 15.

Airlie said: “The charity has always been close to my heart. Georgina is truly inspirational.”

The youngsters, whose problems included autism, cerebral palsy and physical disabilities, came from Glasgow, Rothesay, Bothwell and other parts of Strathclyde.

In many cases, the pilgrimage offer respite care while the parents can go off for a week and re-charge their batteries. Sarah has now volunteered to do more work with autistic children.
